The above link will allow you to quickly view my waistcoat gallery.   All waistcoats have a reference number which can be referred to me for further information - I will be gradually adding more information on each waistcoat - but it takes time - maybe  quicker just to email or phone me if you need further info.  You can also leave your own comments.

I started designing waistcoats during 1991 - my first customers would have purchased from me at Cockington Court, where I had a workshop with the Devon Rural Skills Trust.

Brigid Foley has a great  selection of my garments in her beautiful shop - 8 Paddons Row, Tavistock, Devon PL19 OHF  - Telephone number 01822 612203.  Brigid has been selling my garments consistently for at least 9 years.   If you are travelling to Tavistock her shop is really worth a visit.

Some of the images will concentrate more on detail than the overall garment.  Please do not hesitate to email for further pictures of a particular garment quoting reference. Thejaxcollection@gmail.com

Some Commissions:

Joy - my lovely friend modellled these pictures for me some 5 years ago - she looks great.  She shows my garments the way they should be worn - for relaxation and comfort.   These garments have been long sold!

July 2006  -   I received an email fro Mary-Lynne Taylor of Sydney, Australia sometime in late May - she had been browsing my website and showed interest in my waistcoats..........I have reproduced (with her permission) the email of her experience............."On Friday last, a very compact parcel arrivedf.  The day before a big sack turned up and I thought this is it -but no - just an uintidy package of my own packing.  Disappointment!!  Then yours the very next day. THANK YOU!  It is wonderful and fits well - everyone has loved the mixed motifs, esp me.  I have just unearthed all my black winter gear and dreary stuff it is and the waistcoat will be very necessary and much appreciated.

I LOVE it - and loved the whole process of getting it, meeting you, the train trip, the Lightning  visit to Torquay -( must go again), seeing your house, hearing your history of garments, meeting your partner and the kind pickups and delivery. It turned an otherwise dull and dank day into an adventure and a very profitable one at that! The packaging worked very well and it arrived neat as a pin - so quick! In time for a big court case on Mondary where it will get an airing in fron of the judge and 2 Queens counsel.  Unfortunately I will be in the office today - as now- preparing even tho iti s a perfect winter Sunday here.  One of my friends who helped with the email and web addresses and who of coure tok the time to peek at your websigte herself cannot wait to see it now but had to return to UK for her Mother's funeral  - will see it next weekend as we take her to the latest Aussie movie "Jindabyne" - which we are recommending to all"

Back view of Mary-Lynnes' waistcoat.    If you see this waistcoat walking around Sydney - specially in the vicinity of Norman Waterhouse Lawyers or indeed even in the Law Courts please do email and tell me!             Mary-Lynne was particularly inspired by Dan Summers waistcoat - coincidently he was due to collect it the very next day - see picture on Home page of this website and on Gents Waistcoats.  Thankyou Mary-Lynne for this enjoyable commission - and proof that distance need not be an issue!

This garment is of the summer 2005 -   It reminded me of a Chinese Vase - that was my inspiration.

Again - slightly new direction using little abstract birds - summer 2005 - blending coffee, tans, browns, and gentle lime greens together - a very pleasing garment to look at.

Short small waistcoat.  Lovely rich blues on distressed denim - abstract lines - and some unexpected copper clematis leaves.  Design worked so well.  Sheila loved this garment so much she asked me to make a slightly larger size - so I did - but be assured that the garments are far from identical!!   I never ever do two the same. SOLD

Picture of me wearing one of my favourite garments in 1999

Sold very quickly in Sidmouth - wonder where it is now?

circa 1999

above and right - back and front of short waistcoat that quickly sold.

This was a short waistcoat - inspired by leaves from a Devon hedge in Widecome-in-the-Moor - sold to a fellow artist at Exeter Festival.

To the right and below - these garments go back to about 1992 - will try and add further detailed images later - this was one of the first long garments I made from black denim.                  My friend Jenny models the short garment below - I was very reluctant to sell it because it was my "new direction" and I loved wearing it myself.  The buyer knew this when she purchased from Exeter.  Beautiful jacket!

This is a multicolour glazed chintz short waistcoat - ideal for ladies or gents - I have done lots of these in different colour ways and if you ask I can create one for you in your preferred colour combinations!

This was a very unusual design - quite geometric - it reminded me of a Victorian style - although I am sure it is not! -  took a risk with the colours too  but pleased to say that t it sold very quickly.
